Dollar Tree Shopping: What to Buy to Support Your Adult Coloring Habit

Dollar Tree’s business model lends itself to impulse buys. When everything is just $1, it’s tempting just to throw items in your cart and not give it a second thought. However, if you’re thinking about buying adult coloring books at Dollar Tree, I’d have to urge you to take a pass. Even though they’re only $1, it’s better to save your money and buy some nice paper and ink for use with your favorite free adult coloring pages.

Here’s what’s wrong with Dollar Tree’s adult coloring books:

  • The paper is thin.
  • Some of the books use paper with a slight grayish or yellowish tint instead of the crisp white paper you’ll find in higher quality books.
  • Most pages are double sided.
  • Very few books have perforated pages, making them hard to remove when you’re done.
  • The books use clip art instead of original illustrations.

The only time I’d recommend buying Dollar Tree’s books is if you have no access to a printer and you only use colored pencils so you’re not worried about bleed through. Even then, I’d still recommend only buying one or two of your favorites.

That being said, you can still find some nice items at the Dollar Tree to support your adult coloring obsession. If you’re looking for a way to organize your collection, they have an endless supply of colorful plastic cups and bins. There are also binders for storing your finished pages, folders, and pencil pouches. The adorable bunny pouch featured at the top of this post was one I purchased on my last Dollar Tree run.

Celebrating Mother’s Day with Crafts Made from Adult Coloring Book Pages

Most websites that talk about handmade Mother’s Day gifts have ideas for young children to make, but I think moms appreciate a sentimental DIY project no matter how old their children are.  (I know my mom has always been a sucker for a handmade gift!)

If you love adult coloring books, why not thank your mom for all she’s done to encourage your creative side by making a gift using on of your finished pages? Here are some ideas:

If you don’t already have a design in mind to use for your project, Coloring Life and Adult Coloring Worldwide have several free adult coloring pages for Mother’s Day.

Snag a Free Adult Coloring Book from Arteza

Arteza, a manufacturer of markers, colored pencils, and other art supplies, is offering a free 48-page adult coloring book on their website. You’ll need to provide your address and email after adding the freebie to your cart, but no payment method is needed to check out.

The selection of designs includes florals, abstract geometric patterns, mandalas, and more of beginner to intermediate level difficulty.  I’d take advantage of this free PDF coloring book offer ASAP, however, since there seems to be no expiration date listed.

Adult Coloring in the Workplace: How Your Coloring Style Reveals Your Personality

Do you get to color at work? If not, maybe you should see if your boss will let you start!

Entrepreneur recently published a great article about using adult coloring in the workplace as a way to foster teamwork, improve communication, and boost morale. The author, Kelly Lovell, has some fascinating insights into how your coloring style can be used to evaluate your strengths as an employee. If you outline before filling in, choose unusual color palettes, or often leave your pictures unfinished, you’ll want to check this article out!

Prismacolor Color Palette: Warm Grey

Gray is my favorite neutral to wear, but I don’t often use it in my coloring. However, I really love this color combination. It’s one I’ll have to remember when updating my wardrobe.

All colors are from the Prismacolor 72 count set, although I believe some of the colors might be found in smaller sets.

  • PC921 – Pale Vermillion
  • PC1002 – Yellow Orange
  • PC989 – Chartreuse
  • PC1051 – 50% Warm Grey
  • PC1051 – 20% Warm Grey

The picture is from MiniMENTALS by Sue Chastain. This is one of her earlier books, but I keep coming back to the designs because I love the smaller size and the instant gratification of getting a picture done quickly.

Prismacolor Color Palette: Summer Sunburst

This particular color palette is a bright and cheery selection inspired by the warmer weather we’ve been having recently. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for summer!

All colors are from the Prismacolor 72 count set, although I believe some of the colors might be found in smaller sets.

  • PC926 – Carmine Red
  • PC994 – Process Red
  • PC918 – Orange
  • PC917 – Sunburst Yellow

The picture is from Stress Less Coloring: Flower Patterns. Part of the Stress Less series by Adams Media, this book has over 100 realistic and abstract flower designs in various levels of difficulty.

Banish Dandruff for Good with a Raw Honey Hair Mask

Dandruff can be a major bummer, especially when white flakes ruin the look of your favorite little black dress. Commercial dandruff shampoos do the trick, but they are often full of nasty smelling chemicals. Beat dandruff the natural way with a raw honey hair mask.

This recipe comes from Youbeauty expert Julie Ricevuto. As an all natural dandruff cure, the raw honey hair mask works because honey is naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, as well as being a fabulous moisturizer.

To make your hair mask:

  1. Mix two tablespoons coconut or olive oil with 1 tablespoon honey.
  2. Heat in the microwave for a few seconds until warm enough to spread easily.
  3. Massage the mixture onto your scalp, then cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes to an hour.
  4. Rinse well.

Growing up, I was told that apple cider vinegar was the best cure for my dandruff. Although it did the trick, I have to admit the smell was terrible.

I love the scent of honey, so I think this is a much better solution! If you want, you could even customize your mask with a few drops of lavender essential oil. Lavender pairs well with honey as a fragrance and lavender essential oil is often used to soothe an itchy scalp.
